Plan and use safely
Usage guidance for privacy strips.
From checking the fence and cutting and installation through to regular inspections: the most important guidance for privacy strips is summarised clearly here.

Product data at a glance
General guidance, product-specific values.
Depending on the product line, privacy strips may be made from polypropylene, polyethylene, PET fleece or a material composite. Technical values from one data sheet therefore cannot be applied to the entire range. Always check the width, thickness, supplied form, fastening method, temperature range and care information for the specific item.
Values such as 1.1 mm material thickness, 850 g/m² area weight, an operating range of -10 to 70 °C or linear expansion of 1.6 mm per metre for a 10 °C temperature increase come from the zaun|zu® PREMIUM data sheet. They do not automatically apply to other privacy strips.
Before installation
Check the fence, location and local rules first.
A fully covered fence panel behaves differently from open mesh. The existing fence must be suitable for the planned privacy screen and the resulting loads.
Compatibility
Check clear row height, panel width, bar thickness and post system. Strip width and the intended fastening method must suit the existing fence.
Wind load
Privacy screening increases the wind forces acting on mesh panels, posts and foundations. At exposed locations, with tall fences or in case of uncertainty, a suitable specialist should assess the fence.
Local requirements
Observe local building regulations, property boundaries and any agreements with neighbours before making the fence opaque.
Ventilation
Allow sufficient air circulation around plants, walls and adjacent structures. This helps prevent persistently damp, poorly ventilated areas.
Measure and cut
The weaving allowance is part of the required length.
The panel width alone is not sufficient as the cutting measurement: weaving in front of and behind the vertical bars requires additional length. First weave a test strip in the chosen pattern, mark the finished length and then measure it outside the fence.
Cut safely
Use a tape measure or folding rule, sharp sturdy scissors or a suitable utility knife, cut-resistant gloves and a firm surface. Take particular care to protect hands and the coating when cutting at the fence.
- 01Choose the fence panel and desired weaving pattern.
- 02Weave the test strip fully and mark the final position.
- 03Measure the actual length and transfer it to the remaining rows.
- 04Check the cut edge and trim any uneven areas neatly.
Install panel by panel
Weave evenly and allow for movement.
Start at one side of the panel and guide the strip section by section, alternating in front of and behind the vertical bars. Do not pull it forcefully through the entire panel.
One panel at a time
Cut roll material for each fence panel wherever possible. Continuous strips across several panels are harder to guide and may restrict temperature-related expansion.
Separate at the post
If the design is to continue across a post, install the sections separately and overlap them if required. This retains a movement zone for the material.
Check the fit regularly
Check the pattern, tension and end position while weaving. The strip should sit flat without being compressed or excessively tensioned.
Secure ends appropriately
With posts that have a cover strip, the cut edge can sit behind it. Where additional securing is required, use only a finishing solution suitable for the product and post system.
Inspection and care
Inspect regularly instead of waiting for damage.
Weather, dirt and temperature changes continuously affect the installed surface.
Not an all-risks guarantee
Installation and application errors
Damage caused by an unsuitable fence, incorrect cutting or fastening, excessive tension or use outside the product specifications is not a UV-related material change.
The specific product remains decisive
The full guarantee declaration for the specific product purchased determines which goods, period and conditions are actually covered.
Statutory rights in the event of defects can be exercised free of charge and are not restricted by an additional guarantee.
This page provides general planning guidance. Installation conditions may vary depending on the fence, location and product. Safety requirements, local regulations and the information for the relevant item take precedence.
